Ive been interested in the Gnostic religion for quite a few years now, first discovering it directly after getting a computer, Ive always had an interest in such things...religion, the occult etc. The Gnostic movement has had influence on many movements and concepts throughout time....from Alchemy to 19th century Existentialism. Many years later I would discover the influence that Gnosticism has had on modern film.
This realization had in fact come to me directly after first studying the Gnostic religion, I started to study Gnosticism one day at about 6pm and continued to read until I realized that it was fast approaching 6am the next day. Going into the kitchen to get something to drink I turned on the TV, I did not change the channel, it was already on HBO. Thats when I realized that TRON was being shown that morning, it just happened to be toward the end of the film, and in that moment I heard
"All that is visible must grow beyond itself and extend into the realm of the invisible"
My first thought was..."Hmm that sounds familiar"
But it wasn't until many years later that I came to know just how influential it was on film, thats when I began to collect movies based either directly or indirectly on Gnostic ideas and concepts......
