The Mothman Prophecies is a 2002 psychological thriller film directed by Mark Pellington, based on the 1975 book of the same name by parapsychologist and Fortean author John Keel. The film stars Richard Gere as John Klein, a reporter who researches the legend of the Mothman. It is based on actual events that occurred between November 1966 and December 1967 in Point Pleasant, West Virginia.

I really love this movie. I can remember hearing about the Mothman legend on tv and in stories long before the movie was made. I was worried going in that it would be a straight up horror film but I was nicely surprised with the pstchological elements of the film. Especially how you sometimes see the Mothman out of the corner of a shot or behind something. You never really know if its all in Klein's mind or not. The final scene where the bridge is taken down was really powerfully shot and haunting.
