The Ninth Gate (1999) is a European-production movie, directed by Roman Polanski. It is a neo-noir, mystery thriller about the rare book business, wherein rare-book dealer Dean Corso (Johnny Depp) is hired by bibliophile Boris Balkan to validate a seventeenth-century copy of The Nine Gates of the Kingdom of Shadows, by Aristide Torchia.

I first saw this one back when it first came out on tv, and to be honest didn't really think that much about it. I just took it as a horror movie and nothing more. I didn't see it again until I came across it on dvd, and I figured I would give it another shot, and since then it has grown on me. I enjoy it more and more with each watch.
